Our workWatercare supplies A-grade drinking water that is retailed to more than 1.2 million consumers across New Zealand's largest city. We treat the region's wastewater at a highly sophisticated treatment plant at Mangere. Most of our staff are based in open-plan offices in Newmarket, Auckland - a city centre location with free parking and excellent public transport links. Newmarket is home to Watercare's 24-hour central control room where the entire water and wastewater networks can be monitored. Other staff are based at our wastewater and water treatment plants at locations, to the south and west of the city centre. Part of Watercare's role involves providing for the region's future needs so some of our staff are engaged in the planning and development of projects designed to meet these needs. A current project under way is Project Hobson - the construction of a 3km underground tunnel, using purpose-built technology, to replace a 90-year-old sewer pipe that bisects Hobson Bay, Auckland. This project will deliver environmental and social benefits, resulting in cleaner water and increasing recreational opportunities in the bay. |
